HOW DO I CARE FOR MY FOUNDRI JEWELLERY?

None of our products are plated, so normal jewellery cleaner will work just fine to clean your products. If you don't have jewellery cleaner, good ol' Sunlight liquid soap and a toothbrush does the job too. Silver and bronze both tarnish over time, and more so if not worn often. So if you wear your ring often, it will stay shiny for longer. Silvo can be used to remove tarnish on silver items (don't use it on brass, Mokume or Shibuichi)

If need be, we will be happy to repolish your jewellery for you at a charge of R50 per item.

Please note that you will have to take care of all shipping costs.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE IN YOUR JEWELLERY?

All our products are made from either 925 Silver (we alloy with copper not nickel), Shibuichi Bronze, Mokume Gane, Brass, or a combination of these materials. We do not currently work in Gold, but hope to do so in the future.

WHAT IS SHIBUICHI BRONZE?

Shibuichi is a "semi precious" Japanese bronze that alloys silver and copper in a specific ratio to get the desired colour, properties and patina. It has a rosy undertone and gains a gunmetal grey patina over time (a finish we love about this alloy). As seen, the bronze contains copper, so normal skin colouration may occur. This should however cease after a period time as the copper content in the surface layer that comes in contact with your skin eventually wears out.

Shibuichi is quite popular in men's wedding bands as it provides a nice alternative to gold or silver and is more durable than wood. We normally line the inside of our Shibuichi rings with Silver to prevent skin colouration.

WHAT IS MOKUME GANE?

Mokume Gane (pronounced Moe-koo-may Gah-nay) is an ancient Japanese metalworking technique, developed in feudal Japan by master swordsmiths. The name translates as "woodgrain metal," referring to one of the most popular patterns created to adorn samurai swords.

Mokume is made by layering thin sheets of metals like silver, bronze, gold or copper, and laminating the layers together under heat and pressure. The laminated block is then twisted and carved into to create different types of patterns. See our Men's collection for an example of a men's Mokume Gane ring.

HOW DO I GET MY RING SIZE?

The best way to get your ring size is to have it measured professionally by any local jeweler or jewelry shop. We understand that this is not always possible or convenient, so here's what you can do at home:

  • Measure the  inside diameter of one of your existing rings and use the sizing chart to convert the diameter to a UK size.
  • Use a piece of rigid cardboard (about the thickness of a business card) with the width of the ring you plan to purchase and wrap it around your finger. Mark the exact point where the ends of the cardboard intersect and measure the length of cardboard used. Stick it with tape and try it on to see if it fits over your knuckle. Do not bend it or change the shape to get it on as you won't be able to do it with a ring made of silver. If the cardboard ring fits, measure the inside diameter or use the length of the cardboard  to find your UK size on a conversion chart.

There are many sizing charts and guides available for download online. A very handy sizing site when you want the size of an existing ring is findmyringsize.com. You can find the size of your ring by measuring it on the screen!

Please note that we cannot be held liable if the size you ordered is incorrect or does not fit.

WHAT IF THE RING I PURCHASED IS THE WRONG SIZE?

We will be more than willing to resize your Foundri ring for you! We charge a R100 resizing fee. Alternatively, if the ring you purchased has not been worn and is undamaged, we will be happy to take your incorrect ring as stock, and make you a new one free of charge. You will however be responsible for all shipping costs.
